What is the Parents' Association?
The Parents' Association is a school-wide organization that includes every IPS parent. At IPS, parents play an active role in the life of the school. Therefore, the Parents' Association assists with fundraising and community building, through a variety of educational and social events. The Parents' Association strives to facilitate communication between administration and families with monthly all-school meetings. A typical agenda for a general PA meeting includes reports from the Director of IPS, the Education Director, the Director of Development, the Parents League liaison, as well as all the chairs of the upcoming fundraisers. Additionally, each location also has monthly local meetings to discuss school-wide and location-related issues, upcoming fundraisers and class events. As a parent you are automatically a member of the Parents' Association and we welcome your involvement.

The Parents' Association Board
The Board comprises the Parents' Association officers (president, treasurer and secretary, as well as the vice-presidents from all locations). The president is the head of the PA; the treasurer oversees the PA's finances; and the secretary records the minutes at the school-wide meetings and disseminates these minutes to the PA Board as well as all parents via email and cubbies. It is the responsibility of the location vice-presidents to attend the monthly school-wide meetings, disseminate the information from this meeting to their location, and coordinate volunteers for both school and location events. Vice-presidents are typically those parents that are very involved at the location or school level. These voluntary board positions are determined by the Parents' Association, as well as the IPS administration.

Japanese Parents Committee
The Japanese Parents Committee of the IPS Parents' Association was formed in the early 1970s as a way to connect with new families and assist families with their adjustment to New York. The Committee has been very active all these years supporting our preschool in so many helpful ways, and, with the aid of Eiko Shimada of the 45th Street office, it has been very successful in keeping the membership involved and active at IPS. Traditionally, the Committee creates several hand-made items for sale at IPS Book Fairs. These wonderful cards, book marks, tree ornaments and other gifts are extremely popular year after year.
