Dear IPS Community,
I hope this finds you all well. The weather in NYC is lovely today and I hope wherever you are you will enjoy the day.
Today is Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, a holiday that honors the end of slavery in the US in 1865. We are proud that Governor Cuomo has made today a state holiday. We hope this is the beginning of steps taken towards changing the racist systems in this country.
I have nothing new to report regarding the opening of schools in September. I continue to be in close contact with my colleagues in both NYC and NYS, although it is the decisions for NYC that will inform us. Typically we close IPS for the month of August. This summer we will close in July in anticipation of opening in September. We expect to be back in the locations in August to prepare and set up. We have been purchasing PPE equipment and have several versions of class groups, so that once we get the guidelines we can put our reopening plan to work.
At that time we will let you know what September will look like. In the meantime, the children who enrolled are enjoying our June Zoom classes!
Below are remote resources for children and an invitation to attend a talk hosted by The Browning School. We look forward to Phase 2 openings to begin on Monday in NYC, which includes the opening of playgrounds!
