May 1 Letter

Dear IPS Community,

Happy May! For those of us in NYC we expect to see lots of flowers with all the April showers we’ve had.

It’s becoming apparent that school will not reopen this school year. Although no determination has been made yet, this morning the Governor did recommend that schools begin their “plan” for opening in September with enhanced hygiene protocols.

Yesterday I met with the Location Administration from both locations to begin developing our plan. There is always an element of excitement when it comes time for planning a new school year. Even more so this year!

We deeply miss school life, the community and most of all the children. I always refer to the children as flowers who bloom each spring. The year’s worth of growth all comes together usually just after spring break. The Pre-K and Jr. K kids don’t look like preschoolers any more, the Green room kids begin to look like Pre-K kids, and the Red room kids who were toddlers when school began are kids now!  It’s an amazing cycle that never gets old.

I hope you continue to be well and healthy. Enjoy the weekend. I’ll see many of you on Zoom next week!

Best wishes,

Donna Cohen
