Food
Snack
The school provides snack each day. We do not serve foods that contain “trans fat.” Brita water pitchers are located in each classroom and water is always available to children. Dairy products, when served, are 1% or 2% fat only.
Lunch
Children in the full-day program bring lunch to school. Lunch and drink should be sent in clearly labeled bags or lunch boxes every day. Food should be nutritious, and of course, candy and gum are not allowed. Half a sandwich, fresh fruit and/or vegetable and a juice or milk box are recommended. Yogurt, pasta, bagel, and cereal are other favorites. Please send food that you know your child likes to eat. No glass containers, please.
Snack and lunch food choices must be in compliance with the school’s nut-aware guidelines and any other specific allergy restrictions in a given classroom.
Allergies
IPS is a nut-aware school. Should a student have another food allergy, his or her classroom will be designated as “aware” of that food (i.e. “dairy-aware”). In that case, food and beverages containing dairy would not be allowed in that classroom. All food items brought into class have to have the ingredients clearly marked. Food items that are not clearly marked will not be served. Should there be a student with an airborne food allergy, then the entire school will not serve that food. We expect parents of children with allergies to provide us with all the information we need to ensure that appropriate practices are put in place.
DUE TO A VARIETY OF ALLERGIES, NO FOOD IS ALLOWED IN THE COMMON AREAS OF THE SCHOOL.
