Our study of Pee-Wee’s Tale became so much more than just reading a book—it truly brought our classroom community to life. Our connection deepened even further with our “home adventure” project. The stuffed animal Pee Wee traveled from home to home, giving each child the opportunity to create their own special experience. Families worked together to document their adventures, writing and illustrating their own “Pee Wee tales.” When the children returned to school, they proudly shared their stories with the class, strengthening their sense of belonging and community.
This shared experience not only supported early literacy skills, such as storytelling, sequencing, and recall, but also built strong relationships between school and home. Through Pee Wee’s journey, we became storytellers, listeners, and collaborators—growing closer as a classroom family while celebrating each child’s unique voice.
